Job Title: Chemical Process Engineer
Client – Dounreay Site Restoration Limited
Rate – Up to £48.33 per hour (DOE) Umbrella Co 
Travel Substance – £75 per day

Hours – Typically 37 hours per week 
Location – Dounreay, Thurso / Hybrid Working
Determination – Inside IR35
Duration – 12 Months
Industry – Nuclear, Defence
Security Clearance – Candidates must be eligible to obtain DV security clearance

Job Summary:

We are currently seeking a Chemical Process Engineer to join our clients Reactors team within the Operations Directorate. The primary objective of this role is to efficiently manage and deliver project activities while taking responsibility for specifying and overseeing engineering tasks. The successful candidate will serve as a Process Engineer for designated systems and equipment, providing expertise in process engineering, including specification, calculation, analysis, design, P&ID drawings, verification, and assessment. Additionally, the role will require acting as a Commissioning Engineer when required by Project Teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management: Control, develop, and monitor plans and procedures to ensure the efficient execution of projects.
  • Technical Governance: Design, evaluate, and oversee the technical governance of projects, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices.
  • Resource Management: Identify resource requirements and prepare for/carry out activities accordingly.
  • Problem Solving: Develop appropriate solutions for operational problems, utilizing engineering expertise.
  • Documentation: Develop requirements specifications, technical specifications, P&ID’s, and other design-related documentation for project teams.
  • Engineering Drawings: Develop and review discipline-specific engineering drawings.
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Apply health, safety, environmental, and waste management processes to engineering activities, seeking advice from specialists as necessary.
  • Design Documentation: Review design documentation, including drawings and supporting calculations, for accuracy and compliance.
  • Commissioning: Execute system and equipment commissioning in accordance with commissioning and test documentation.
  • Contract and Project Management: Professionally manage and oversee contract and project works, including the observation of work to ensure industry standards are met.
  • Schedule Compliance: Monitor the implementation of plans and procedures to ensure compliance with project schedules, safety protocols, and relevant legislation.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise effectively with regulators and stakeholders on specific projects to ensure alignment and compliance.
  • Contractor and Subcontractor Management: Manage contractors and subcontractors to ensure the successful execution of project activities.
  • Management Appointments: Perform the responsibilities of Management Appointments relevant to the post, ensuring that all applicable regulations and standards are met.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in process engineering and project management.
  • Familiarity with nuclear industry standards and regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental best practices.
  • Experience in managing contractors and subcontractors is a plus.
