PROJECT DETAILS

I am currently working with an automotive business in Northamptonshire who are looking for an Electrical Systems Engineer on a contract basis.

Expectation;

  1. Contribute to a team effort in creating bespoke, special purpose machines to automate the manufacture of high value, low volume, and complex Power Unit (PU) assemblies.
  2. Predominantly to design electrical systems for industrial machines.  Such as electrical control cabinets and peripherals.  For example, servo motors, robots, sensors, machine vision and metrology systems.
  3. Calculate load ratings and specify pertinent control system equipment.
  4. Calculate actuator sizing from specified mechanical requirements.
  5. Generate electrical schematics and maintain them though the life of the machine.
  6. Identify new and emerging technologies to help expand our HPP’s repertoire in Automation.
  7. Strive for efficient and compact designs.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create special purpose machines to automate manufacturing
  • Design and build electrical systems for industrial machines (control cabinets and peripherals, including servo motors, robots, sensors, machine vision and metrology systems)
  • Calculate load ratings and specify pertinent control system equipment
  • Calculate actuator sizing 
  • Generate electrical schematics
  • Support mechanical machine builds
  • Develop digital validation techniques (eg. virtual commissioning and digital twins)

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Industrial machine control system design.
  • Hands on control system peripheral and panel wiring.
  • Load calculations and specifying pertinent control system products.
  • Report writing for all regulatory requirements.
  • Electrical schematic generation. 

  • Calculating actuator sizing from known mechanical requirements such as servo motors, using specialist software.
  • System interface integration.
  • Generating Bill of Materials to deliver and install all equipment on time and to budget.
  • 3 phase installations.
  • Designing layouts to adhere to the Machinery Directive and relevant regulations.

  • BEng in some form of Automation Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering or Mechatronics degree.
  • HNC qualifications with several years of industrial experience will be considered.
