Position – Assistant Chief Engineer
Type – Contract
Rate – £60.00 per hour Umbrella Co OR PAYE equivalent (Neg DOE)
Duration – 12 Months +
Hours – Typically 38 hours per week
Determination – Inside IR35
Security – UK BPSS / SC Security Clearance to be in place
Location – Devonport, Plymouth, UK / Remote (2 days per week office based)
Start Date – ASAP

Main Purpose of Role;

The purpose of the Assistant Chief Engineer (Facility Design) post is:

  • To support the MIP (Major Infrastructure Projects) Design Authority and MIP Office of the Chief Engineer in establishing and confirming facility design intent by providing expertise in the governance and assurance of major project facility design and oversight of verification and validation of the design meeting requirements. 
  • Current projects governed by MIP Design Authority include 10 Dock, 5 Basin East Wall Berths, O2 Workshop and SADP(F) in 8 Dock, as well as a number of early scoping studies. This portfolio is expanding and our remit widening.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences;

    To include:

  • Sound understanding of engineering design practice. (design and facility design)
  • Understanding of Major Project design governance and assurance in the nuclear industry. (governance and assurance)
  • Understanding and experience of validation and verification of engineering requirements. (V&V and systems engineering)
  • Understanding and experience of configuration management. (configuration management)
  • Working knowledge of relevant engineering office computer applications, for example MathCAD, Navisworks.    

    Qualifications;

    To include:

    Academic:

  • A degree in an appropriate engineering or technical discipline (or equivalent)
  • Chartered Engineer, registered with Engineering Council (or working towards)
  • Nuclear (training can be provide where required):

  • Mandatory Training (or demonstrable equivalent gained through training or experience)
  • o   Module 1 NPFC Nuclear Plant Foundation Course

    o   Module 2 NFC Nuclear Fundamentals Course
