Role: Powertrain Design Engineer
Type: Contract
Duration: 6-Months
Rate: £46 per hour (Inside IR35)
Location: Surrey (Hybrid working – 50/50 remote/site split)
Essential Skills: Mechanical design background; CATIA V5; Full life cycle design engineer; In-depth understanding of Concept design to production processes; strong Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing skills; Experience of high performance & lightweight materials; FE analysis experience is desirable; powertrain commodity experience preferred (cooling, HVAC, fuel systems, exhaust, transmission, batteries & motors)

I’m working with an industry-leading automotive company who are in need of a contract Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team working with their Powertrain department to develop the next generation of hybrid systems for their supercars. 
You’ll be expected to:
  • Coordinate design work to deliver timely design releases.
  • Develop and specify GD&T data set on CAD models or drawing taking into account all inputs from parts suppliers, assembly processes and DM studies.
  • Responsible for powertrain component packaging on vehicle, detailed design, integration & release maturity of the Powertrain systems; from concept to production ensuring the design supports system technical specifications.
  • Interfacing with other engineering Teams, taking responsibility for integration of powertrain component designs with Powertrain Systems and Vehicle systems
  • Working as part of a flexible team alongside Engineers and technical experts, responsible for designing to high quality standard and taking ownership of design and delivery of components and subsystems

  The successful Mechanical Design Engineer will have:

  • Strong CATIA V5 experience for detailed component & integration 
  • Strong GD & T skills
  • Knowledge of materials & manufacturing processes within powertrain development (desirable)
  • Powertrain component design experience desired but experience in other systems (suspension, brakes, body etc) also considered
