Day Rate – Up to £430 per day INSIDE IR35 (Umbrella)
Length – 12 months (possible extension)
Location – Remote working with some requirement to attend meetings in Glasgow throughout the contract
Security Clearance – BPSS Security Clearance required which client will provide


Area Bridge Manager

This post is within the Bridges team of the Transport Scotland Roads Directorate who are responsible for overseeing the management and maintenance of all structural assets on the trunk road network.
You will be responsible for managing and delivering a programme of structural inspection, assessment, maintenance and renewal works through our Operating Companies.

Main duties

  • Procurement, management and delivery of works contracts up to £5m in value; preparation and submission of investment decision proposals
  • Engaging consultant and specialist support, agreeing scope of project works, managing budgetary control, undertaking Technical Approval, considering Departures from Standard, advising Ministers and liaising with TS colleagues and stakeholders to enable scheme delivery
  • Management of risk based programmes in your area including High Risk Parapets, At Risk Piers, Hidden Defects, Scour, Safety Critical Fixings, Post-tensioned structures, low headroom footbridges, Half-joint and Hinge structures
  • Supporting the Network Bridges Manager to implement and manage other structures work streams, as may be required
  • Assisting the Network Bridges Manager and Asset Manager in compiling the annual Future Budget Pressures Report
  • Providing advice to internal and external stakeholders on structural aspects of proposals that affect the trunk road network, including developing and updating national technical standards
  • Ensuring procurement governance and process management is completed for schemes, reporting to the Network Bridges Manager and Chief Bridge Engineer.

Essential criteria

  • Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer
  • Experience of design or maintenance of road related structures.
